Madrid Travel

Madrid, the capital city on Spain is a great destination for many a tourist. Apart from the monuments and awesome architecture that you find all over Spain, Madrid has lots to offer you in terms of shopping and partying as well! After Madrid became the capital of Spain in 1562, many recipes found their way to the city’s kitchens, and its hard to say which dishes available in Madrid today are original Spanish dishes, and which ones ‘influenced’. But it doesn’t really matter does it, unless you are into cooking history!

Madrid is a great place to be at if it’s the New Year’s Eve – people all gather at the Puerta del Sol, and with every chime of the giant clock, you are supposed to eat one grape, that’s 12 grapes for the entire chime, and your new year will bring you joy and success. The Spaniards take this very seriously, and if those at home watch the ceremonies on TV.

If you are the artistic kind, don’t miss the Museum of Contemporary arts at your Madrid travel. Other interesting museums you good visit there include ‘The Museum of Horse Coaches’ and the national museum Reina Sofia.

for some great ideas. Be sure to see at least some of the old monuments dating to the 16th and 17th centuries, some even older than that, that stand witness to Madrid’s history.

Some people call Madrid as the ‘nightlife capital’ of Europe – and not wrongly at that, mind you the nightlife madrid. Here the party begins after midnight, and goes on may into the morning. You could be going to a nightclub or a pub at 2 am, and leave the place at 7am! The Madrid culture is to pub hop! Nobody stays in the same place for his or her entire fun-duration. As a result you could get stuck in a traffic jam sometime in the early hours of the morning – some people driving to work and others getting from pub to pub! During summer months, you may want to visit one of the many terrace-bars and have a drink while under the night sky – nothing can beat the feeling.

There are many cafes to go to, at Madrid for the non-alcoholics! These places have been known as meeting hubs for writers and artists for many years, much like the tea houses of London.

You may find it handy to keep a map of the place if you are visiting the place for the first time but keep in mind that if you walk around holding a map and looking like a fish out of water, you will attract the wrong kind of attention, and become a sitting duck for scammers. Not only that, its really irritating to constantly be bugged by guys trying to make a quick buck off you somehow isn’t it? So wherever you go visiting, try and gel into the crowds rather than stand out. Well, anyway, you can get a map at gomadrid.
